IF THEY ONLY KNEW......
I was five years old when I got my first pony ride.  I was drawing
horses from the time that my little fingers could hold a pencil and
this moment was surreal to me.  If they only knew the torture they
would endure form the next decade, they would never have
encouraged it that beautiful summer day.

After that day, I was promised a horse when I turned 16 as long as I
had a job and could pay his board myself.  Eleven years went by, the
horse was purchased for me, even though times were tough then.
My cashier's job wasn't cutting it.  A year later, my mother brought
home a painted piece of roofing slate that she had purchased at a
local craft fair.  Eveyone said "you could do that", so I did.  My Dad
knew of an old railroad station that was being torn down and
grabbed a few pieces of slate for me to try my hand on.  The rest is
history.  I never took a dime from anyone to pay for the upkeep of
that horse.  He's long gone (never forgotten), but it was the money
that I made at my first craft fairs that enabled me to purchase my first
farm for  him at the age of 29.  I've had several horses since then,
keeping them all until they've passed on, and can't imagine my life
without each one.

My painting has allowed me to be surrounded by my two loves - my
animals and my craft.  I've been painting on slates for more than half
of my life.

Having been drawn to the textures, durability, and history of each
piece of roofing slate that I use, I'll continue to search for these little
antique pieces of history for recycling - hopefully for the next half of
my life.

I hope you enjoy your purchase, as I have enjoyed creating it.
